Consider the following as a template for creating a 360/ 3D experience of attitudinal content:
Side 1 the geometric, curvilinear forms spiral with a fluid progression creating an elegant flow
side 2 the simple, rounded rectilinear shapes alternate in vertical/horizontal creating a rustic weaving action that is a little more dynamic.
side 3 the biomorphic shapes convolute in a complex combine rhythm to create a funky entanglement.
side 4 the erratic, busy shards of both biomorphic and geometric shapes move diagonally in a zig-zagging complexity to create a frantic fragmentation.
Sketchbook Journaling for your process – What can you improve, what should you keep:
- DUE 2/9/21 by the end of class, In-class crit of four photos of the four sides of the connoted cube, use the following prompts to diagram & analyze what you’ve made:
- UPLOAD TO GOOGLE DRIVE, 3D TURN IN HERE
- TITLE = Your name + 2/9 crit elegant, rustic, playful, frantic (include number notation at the end if more than the one attitudinal content title image is uploaded).
- use either google slides, smartphone app or laptop program to diagram the following on top of the photo image of each zone of the cube: elegant, rustic, whimsical/funky, frantic.
- Main terms: connote volume, eyepath, rhythm, taper pointing, design elements & principles, attitudinal content, shape.
- The student is to identify how they used the design elements and principles to connote each of the four attitudinal content by diagraming and text labels:
- How did you connote a geometric cube volume?
- Are the rhythms clear enough in order to emphasize the eyepaths: identify how you used Fluid Progression, Alternating Beat, Complex Combination rhythms.
- Are the individual shapes small enough for us to read as a rhythm eyepath? Remember, people on a path are smaller than the path or they merely become branches to the path – emphasize the larger path with smaller shapes.
- Are the shapes aligned along the axis of the path?
- Are the changes in the shapes clearly one of the 3 rhythms form decoder?
- Is a one-way direction shown with taper (connoted or denoted)?
- Identify any additional design elements & principles and whether they are appropriate to the attitudinal content in calmness or dynamics. Point out and label / identify how you used:
- horizontal/vertical/diagonal orientation,
- symmetry / asymmetry,
- predictable repetition / diverse erratic forms and whether they are appropriate to the attitudinal content in calmness or dynamics.
